Professor James D. Foley, Stephen Fleming Chair in Telecommunications - Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.
Dr. Foley established the Graphics, Visualization & Usability Center, which in 1996 was ranked #1 by US News and World Report for graduate computer science work in graphics and user interaction. In 1996, he became director of Mitsubishi Electric Research Lab in Cambridge and then in 1998 chairman and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric ITA, directing corporate R&D at four labs in North America. He returned to Georgia as Executive Director and then CEO of Yamacraw, Georgia's economic development initiative in the design of broadband systems, devices and chips.
Dr. Foley is a Fellow of ACM and IEEE, an inaugural member of the ACM/CHI Academy, and recipient of the biannual ACM/SIGGRAPH Stephen Coons Award for Outstanding Creative Contributions to Computer Graphics. In July 2001, Dr. Foley became chairman of the Computing Research Association [2] - an organization of over 200 computer science and computer engineering university departments, professional societies and industrial research labs.
Associate Professor Anthony L. Brooks, Director of SensoramaLab (http://medialogy.eu/facilities [3]), Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, Aalborg Universitet, Aalborg, Denmark.
Associate Professor Dr Anthony Lewis Brooks (aka Tony) is director of the SensoramaLab at Aalborg University, Esbjerg in Denmark where he is a founding member of the Medialogy education (2002-present). His research within interaction design and human-computer interaction with a focus on children with special needs originated in 1985 with a focus on unencumbered gesture-based control of video games, art (making music and digital painting), and robotic devices via sensor-based devices created under his SoundScapes company. The research is responsible for a patent family on Communication Method and Apparatus (US6893407) and EU projects (e.g. http://www.bristol.ac.uk/carehere/ [4]). He is a past winner of the European Eureka Award, (Stockholm, 1999), and the Danish Vanfoerefonden Research Prize (2006, Copenhagen). SoundScapes has been featured at the Cultural Olympics, which runs parallel to the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games at Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. It has also been featured at the Cultural Capital of Europe 1996 (Copenhagen) and 2000 (Avignon).
Call for Submissions
The fifth in a highly-successful series of biennial international conferences on INTERNET TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS (ITA 13) will be held in Wrexham, North East Wales, UK from Tuesday 10th to Friday 13th September 2013. The conference will draw together researchers, artists and developers from academia and industry across all fields of Internet computing, creative digital media, moving image and engineering. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. There will be a range of events from keynote addresses, technical and poster sessions, workshops, tutorials and for the first time we will be hosting a specially curated exposition of artworks relating to the conference proceedings. The formal sessions will be supplemented by an excellent social programme including a visit to the historic English city of Chester, a boat trip on the River Dee and a medieval Welsh banquet at Ruthin Castle. Conference Location
The conference will be hosted by the Centre for Creative and Applied Research for the Digital Society (CARDS) (www.cards-uk.org [7]) at Glyndŵr University, Wrexham (www.glyndwr.ac.uk [8]). Wrexham is a beautiful Welsh town conveniently situated between the metropolitan centres of Manchester and Liverpool in England and the tranquility of the North Wales countryside and mountains of Snowdonia.
Nearby are the historic city of Chester and the international festival centre of Llangollen. Wrexham is served by two international airports (Manchester and Liverpool) both comfortably less than an hour away by road or train.

The scope of the ITA conference series is wide and covers all aspects of Internet activity ranging from technical hardware and software solutions to applications and creative digital media, and the wider issues arising from them.
Papers (and multimedia artefacts where relevant) are invited on any of the topics below or related fields and should be submitted, via the submission page of the conference website (www.ita13.org [5]). Final, camera-ready papers must conform to the author guidelines and must not exceed eight pages in length.
